Dear Host Family,
We are so happy to have you onboard with us here at the MUSC Homestay Program. We hope to make this a fun and memorable experience for you and your family. The purpose for the Orientation Handbook and other materials is to help you feel prepared and excited for Homestay Weekend. Many Host Families have requested that we summarize our suggestions for a successful Homestay Weekend as well as ideas for activities and foods.
The first step in this orientation is the Handbook. The link can be found on the page just below this letter. After the Handbook, scroll down to the next page. You will find more links to other informational resources we have complied for you.
I Hope you enjoy the Homestay Orientation!

What's next?
The next part of the process is preparing you for your Match Up. Closer to Homestay Weekends you will be sent additional information for your Homestay Weekend and the names of your Host Daughters!
Before your Homestay Weekend we will arrange a time for you to come on campus and meet your Host Daughters. You will be provided dinner and a packet with conversation ideas.
This will all happen around the beginning of Homestay Weekends. Until then, sit back, relax, and soak in all of this orientation information!
Awards Ceremony
All Host Families are invited to attend the students’ Awards Ceremony, usually held on one of the last days of the session. An invitation is sent a few weeks before the event. This ceremony marks the completion of the students time in the MUSC program and is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your Host Daughters achievements.
Student Comments on Homestay
"I had a great time with [my] host family, so I want to go again soon. My host parents’ hospitality was great. I want to be like them in the future. Everything was comfortable to me."
"...Our living experience in a home and studies in the classroom provided a rare opportunity to put into practice our English speaking skills, which is immensely rewarding."
" My host family greeted me so warmly and welcomed me into the family. They immediately made me feel at home. "
“I think the Homestay Weekend is great timing because now students begin to feel a little homesick. Host family memories are heartwarming and it’s indispensable for us to learn American life.”
Host Family Comments on Homestay
"The girls were great. Our family fell in love and learned a lot. A wonderful experience for my family. We are planning on getting together as many times as we can before they leave."
"The girls shared Japanese folk tales, origami and information about their homes in Japan, which we thoroughly enjoyed."
"A wonderful experience! I don’t know who enjoyed it more… the students or me."
"We were very happy with our two students. They both said they would be happy being our daughters. They want to come back."
Thank you!
Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
